Obituary of Raymond Gardner

Raymond Purchase Gardner 81, Bridgewater, formerly of Chester Basin and New Glasgow, passed away December 28, 2002 in Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Halifax on January 14, 1921, he was a son of the late Heber and Mary (Purchase) Gardner. Dad worked in the Halifax Shipyards during the war and then as a Commercial Traveller until his retirement. He was proud to be a Shriner (Philae Shrine Temple, Halifax) and to have received his 50th year jewel from the Grand Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the United Commercial Travellers. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lucille (Oxner); sisters, Marjorie, Margaret, Florence and brother, Albert. He is survived by daughters, Mary (Ray) St. Amand (grandson, Steven), Chester Basin and Beverley (Gordon) Benjamin, Bangor, Me. (grandsons, Craig, Bangor; David (Akiko), great grandsons, Raymond and Zachary, Yarmouth County and Mark (Erin), Michigan); sister, Eleanor Larion, Ontario; nieces and nephews. At Dad’s request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or church service. Graveside service will be held at 1p.m., on Friday, January 3, 2003, in Lakeview Cemetery, Croft Road, Chester Basin, Rev. Leo Gallant officiating. No flowers by request. Donations can be made to the Shriners Hospitals c/o Philae Temple, P.O. Box 9050, Station A, Halifax or Canadian Cancer Society.
