Obituary of Hazel Isabelle Reid
Hazel Isabelle "Connie" Reid
90, passed away peacefully and with dignity at Ryan Hall, Bridgewater on Wednesday, October 5, 2011. Born in 1921 in Lunenburg and brought up in Upper LaHave and Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Letson and Hazel (Berringer) Conrad. Connie married the love of her life in wartime Halifax, and celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in May of this year. She will be remembered for her love of family, her time spent in her gardens in Conquerall Bank, her flair for entertaining (in spite of her dislike of cooking), her wonderful sense of humor, and her special times with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her early years she was an avid golfer, curler, bowler and bridge player. Connie will be sadly missed by her husband John; sister Marion Campbell, Bridgewater; sister-in-law Helga Conrad, Upper LaHave and children Linda (Gary) Thompson, Bridgewater, NS; John (Sue) Reid, Centreville, NS; Bob Reid, Edmonton, AB; Carol (Mike) Anthony, Conquerall Bank, NS; Barry (Debby) Reid, Saint John, NB; and former daughter-in-law, Melva Reid, Bedford, NS. She is also survived by grandchildren Matt (Kara) Thompson, Lindsay Thompson, Stephanie (Lara Williams) Reid, Steven (Carol Ann) Reid, Angela (Jeff Piccott) Reid, David Reid, Tony Reid, Sean Reid, Ryan (Rachel) Anthony, Lori (Nick) Cosman, Chris (Jinny) Reid, Scott (Tasha Taylor) Reid, Amanda (Ashley May) Reid, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews in Ontario, Florida and Nova Scotia. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Margaret Smith, brother L W “Walt/Sonny” Conrad, brother-in-law Dave Smith and daughter-in-law Marie Reid. Visitation will be 7-9 P.M., Monday, Oct. 17 at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Memorial service 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. Donations of Connie may be made to Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, Holy Trinity Anglican Church Restoration Fund, or charity of choice.
