Douglas Mark Rhodenizer
Of Cookville, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully in his sleep at his cottage at Mush-a- Mush Lake on September 6, 2011. Dougie has officially retired. Born December 23, 1931 in Cookville, he was a son of the late Mark and Vivian (Rafuse) Rhodenizer. Doug owned and operated a lumber mill with his half brother Vincent; worked for Acadia Construction for 20 years and later became superintendant of Department of Highways during the 70’s. Doug was a well known entrepreneur including The Tops’l, The King Street Corner Café and many commercial and residential rental properties. Doug was a dedicated person volunteering in many community events and projects. He was past president of the Bridgewater Chamber of Commerce; member of TIANS, Nova Scotia Beverage Association, South Shore Bluegrass Association Building Committee. Dougie was involved with politics during the 60’s & 70’s. Doug leaves to mourn his wife, Doreen (Swinimer) of 58 years; daughter, Sheila (Todd) Mackay; granddaughter, Sarah Fillmore; grandson, Bryce (Amanda Colp) Fillmore all of Bridgewater; brother, Murray (Marjorie) Rhodenizer, Bridgewater; many nieces and nephews. Doug was predeceased by half brothers, Russel and Arthur Rhodenizer, Kermit and Vincent Young. Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday, September 10 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 2pm Sunday in Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
