Obituary of Vincent Eugene Rice

Vincent Eugene Rice Of Dayspring passed away peacefully on Monday January 17th 2011, in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born June 30th 1937, he was the son of the late Leslie and Norma (Weir) Rice. Vincent attended the University of New Brunswick enrolled in the Maritime Forest Ranger School in 1957. He was employed with the Nova Scotia Department of Lands and Forest from January 1968 to May 1981. Vincent then was employed with the Caledonia Woodworkers until 1992 and then went to work at Harry Freeman’s and Sons Ltd. in Greenfield until his retirement in 2002 after working in the Forest industry for 44 years. Vincent was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed being in the outdoors. Vince loved his family as well as people in general and took pride in offering hunting tips to family and friends. He also took great pride in his hunting heritage as his father was a professional hunting guide of some notoriety. Vince also garnered some renown among his friends for tying the “Rice Special” fishing fly which is sure to catch many trout. He is survived by his wife, Lulu Belle (Forrest); daughter, Charlene Rice (Wayne Phillips) Bayside, Halifax Co; son, Linwood (Julie), Bridgewater; sister, Rosalind Rice; two Grandsons, Evan Rice, Bridgewater; Jesse MacSwain, Bayside, Halifax Co; nephew, Mark Rice, Lr. Sackville. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a brother, Arnold. Cremation has taken place under the direction of C.F. Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. There will not be any visitation by the request of the family. Memorial service will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday 20 January in the Blessed Hope Baptist Church, Oakhill with Pastor Percy Lake officiating.
