Obituary of Judith Bliss Rogers

Judith Bliss Fossett Rogers Died at home in Lapland in the midst of her family and friends on January 16th, 2011. Born June 30, 1945 in Scranton Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of Carroll Atwood Fossett and Mary Jane (Mackey) Fossett: sister to Carroll A. Jr (Chip); John; Benjamin and Roger Fossett. Graduate in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College in Boston. Wife of Joseph D Rodgers and mother to Reginald (Reggie),Megan, Benjamin (Ben), and David. Grandmother of Christopher, Matthew, Natasha, Shayleigh Rodgers, and Bliss, Eli and Grace Zuniga Rodgers. Judy was an avid gardener and homesteader; emigrating from the USA in 1969 with her husband Joe in search of the simple life they settled in the rural hamlet of Lapland Nova Scotia. For many years a goat breeder, her farming efforts were curtailed by her first struggle with cancer, but she still maintained a large vegetable garden and a flock of laying hens. Her love of wholesome funky food produced a self-authored cook book. She was at one time foods editor for Rural Delivery Magazine. Also an avid traveler, in recent years she made many trips by bus or train usually eschewing plane travel. A life-long pianist, she played organ at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bridgewater and at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Camperdown where she was much appreciated for her many years of faithful service. She was also much in demand for weddings and funerals in the area. Her endearing use of language led to oft repeated phrases such as "Juicier than expected"(referring to her culinary creations)"Would you do that if the queen were here"(referring to children's antics at the diner table) and "Funky-duty (referring to somethings level of interest) Judy is and will be sorely missed by her many friends, her family and her community for her generous spirit, open heart and down to earth nature. Visitation will be held Friday January 21 from 7 to 9pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater with a memorial service to follow 2pm Saturday January 22 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev Catharine House officiating.
