Nellie Marguerite Russell
88, Springfield, Anna. Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the Rosedale Home for Special Care, New Germany, where Nellie considered it home. Born August 5, 1923 in Springfield, she was a daughter of the late Harding Arthur and Mary Marie (Demone) Burgoyne. Nellie enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing bingo, gardening; she loved her jewelry. The compassion, love and care from the staff of Rosedale, is why Nellie felt so at home. She always had a candy to share and the staff always had treats for her, recently she traveled with other residents and staff to PEI and she just loved it; many of the staff called her “mom”. Nellie was loved by family, friends and her Rosedale family. Surviving are children, Marcy, Branch Lahave; Valerie (Frank) Veinot, Upper Cornwall; Sherman (Valerie) Russell, Fancy Lake; Betty (Joe) Zwicker, New Germany; Sherry (Mike) DeLong, Meisners Section; Annette (Joey) Nowe, Wentzell Lake; Lucy (Rex) Rhodenizer, Greenfield; Nancy (Dennis) Hogg, Branch Lahave, Bev (Shelley) Russell, Simpsons Corner; many grandchildren, great grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, John Laurie Russell; children, Joanne, John, Owen, Charlotte and infant son John; son in law, Beverley Crouse; infant grandson, Ryan; brothers, Ellison, Percey, Ralph, Frank, Fred; sister, May. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today (Monday) in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday in Springfield United Baptist Church. Rev. Robert Gates officiating. Private family burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, Rosedale Home for Special Care or charity of choice.
