Obituary of Helen Elizabeth Sleep

Helen Elizabeth Sleep 83, Of New Germany, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in New Germany, she was the daughter of the late Obediah and Louise (Fancy) Varner. Helen was active in her community. She was a member of St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church and the former ACW. She served as president of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary branch 102, New Germany; wrote hundreds of letters on behalf of Santa Claus for Canada Post and was a former cub leader for Scouts Canada; an avid bowler as well as a card and dart player, Helen enjoyed life, especially decorating for every holiday and occasionally even personified the Queen. She worked for a number of years at Little’s Flower Shop and Fielding and Wynn’s Hardware Store. She is survived by her daughter, Sandie (Keith) Veinot, Upper Branch; son, Lewis (Patty) Sleep, Upper Branch; grandchildren, Errin (Evan) Monahan; Jordan Sleep; great grandson, Quinn; sisters, Lucy Gunn and Muriel Hicks both of New Germany. She was predeceased by son, Victor; sisters, Hilda MacKay, Gladys Tipert, Hazel Wright, brothers, Emerson Lowe, Robert Varner. No visitation at the funeral home by request. Funeral 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. Rev. Juanita Barteaux officiating with Rev. Jack Tattrie assisting. Private family interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family flowers only, donations to St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, church cemetery or charity of choice.
