Obituary of Murray Richard

Murray Frederick Richard 87, of Pleasantville, Lunenburg, Co., passed away peacefully at home June 12, 2007 with his wife at his side. Born in Pleasantville, December 7, 1919, he was the son of the late Frederick and Alfretta (Crouse) Richard. He went to sea at age 15, fishing and then onto freighters. He served in the merchant navy Second World War. He left going to sea in the late 40’s, and bought his first truck, working for Acadia Construction, Dept. of Highways and was self employed trucking logs, pulpwood, gravel and Christmas trees to the USA. He told many stories of his experiences at sea and had a quick wit. He was one of the founding members of the Pleasantville and District Fire Dept. He retired in 1980 and did woodworking, ceramics and making lamps. He liked camping and travelling and spent many winters in Florida. He travelled across Canada and many US states. He was a 16yr member of the Airstream R.V. Association of WBCCI. He took great pride in caring for his home and property until the time of his death. He is survived by his wife of 47 yrs Edith (Shankle); a brother Arthur (Norma), Mahone Bay; and sister, Celia (Ralph) Clattenburg; Pleasantville; six nephews and two sisters-in-law, Verda Roberts and Reta Crouse. Visitation will be held Thursday 7-9 pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 11am Friday June 15th in St. Peter’s Anglican Church, West LaHave, Rev David Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasantville Cemetery. Flowers from the immediate family only. Memorial donations may be made to the Pleasantville and District Fire Dept., St. Peter’s Anglican Church or to the charity of choice.
