Obituary of Nellie Olevia Snyder

Nellie Olevia (Vogler) Snyder 94 of Crousetown passed away peacefully surrounded by family on her birthday, 18 October 2011 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Crousetown, she was the daughter of the late Rupert and Samantha (Himmelman) Vogler. Nellie graduated from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal as a Registered Nurse and served her community as a Nurse for many years. Among the many things Nellie is remembered for is the Girl Guide Company and Wolf Cub Pack she formed and led, and her involvement in the Scouting movement. She was a founding member of the Nova Scotia Bird Society and the South Shore Naturalists' Club. She was a writer, artist, avid Gardner, and lover of nature; she was a mentor and nurturer to many. Nellie was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Crousetown. She is survived by her daughter Wendy (Robert) Underwood, Toronto; son William Snyder, Blockhouse; granddaughters Sarah (Kent Doe) Underwood, Halifax; Amy Underwood, Toronto; great-grandchildren Bailey and Gilbert; many nieces and nephews and her faithful and loving dog Tom. Nellie was predeceased by her husband George and sister Ruth Kaulbach. A Requiem Eucharist and Interment of Ashes will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday 22 October in St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Crousetown, the Reverend Oliver Osmond officiating. No flowers by request.
