Obituary of Marilyn Doris Whynot

Marilyn Doris Whynot 72, of New Germany passed away Friday 13 May 2011 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Halifax she was the daughter of the late Douglas and Doris (Bell) Laidlaw. Marilyn was very proud to be an “Army Brat”. She spent the war years in New Germany and then she moved to Alberta from 1953 to 1965 and after that she was off to Kingston Ontario until 1978. She was a Cub leader and trainer for 17 years and was a very active member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102, New Germany where she spent many years as the Branch Treasurer and was awarded a Life Membership for her dedication. For the last couple of years Marilyn was enjoying her Wednesday night card parties in Simpson’s Corner. She was also a member of the New Horizons’ and Epworth United Church. Marilyn is believed to be the longest surviving insulin depended Diabetic in the Maritimes having been diagnosed with Diabetes at the age of 7. She is survived by her husband Osborne; daughters Nancy-Lynn Watson (Fuller), Milton; Judith Marie (Barry) Colp (Fuller), Nineveh; sister Diane (Wayne) Bailey, Bath Ontario; brother Douglas (Shirley) Laidlaw, Kingston; grandchildren Kenneth Watson, James Watson, Zachary Colp, Alexandra “Allie” Colp and William Colp; great grandchildren Makayla Watson, Kenneth “Kenny” Watson, Malachi Smith-Colp and Cyrus Smith; Nephews Donald Laidlaw, Ronald Laidlaw, Steven Laidlaw, Michael Bailey and David Bailey; niece April Grice; numerous great nephews and nieces; stepson David Whynot, Milton; stepdaughter Kimberly Dawn Whynot, Bridgewater; step grandson Marcus Whynot; step great granddaughter Sophie. Marilyn was predeceased by her sister Margaret Anne Laidlaw in infancy. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. Monday 16 May in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 highway 10 New Germany with a public Legion Tribute service at 7:00 P.M. A public graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday 18 May in the Hillside Cemetery, Simpson’s Corner, Rev. Juanita Barteaux officiating. Family flowers only, please.
