Obituary of Norbert Eldred Bushen
Norbert Eldred Bushen
Age 86 years old, formerly of West Dublin, passed away peacefully at home in Hebbs Cross on November 8, 2012. Norbert was born in West Dublin, the youngest son of Eldred and Amy (Mosher) Bushen. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. In 1943 at the age of 17, he joined the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve. After Basic Training he was sent to Quebec City for weapons training, and then assigned to the H.M.C.S. Fort Erie, where he saw service, doing convoy duty between Canada and England. After V.E. Day Norberrt volunteered to stay in the navy to fight in the Pacific. After his discharge he went to trade school in Saint John, New Brunswick to become a carpenter. His first job after trade school was with Fundy Construction Company in 1946 building gypsum loading tunnels near Windsor. He then went to work for M.A. Conden Construction Company in Kentville, which eventually became V.C. Woodworth Construction Company. In 1956 Norbert went back with Fundy Construction and becoming a Carpenter’s Supervisor, until his retirement in 1985, at which time we returned to West Dublin where he worked at his wood lots and his home. Norbert was a great fan of the game of Baseball always enjoying watching the Toronto Blue Jays. Norbert especially enjoyed evening outings playing 45’s or cribbage. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 24, Bridgewater. He is survived by sister-in-law June Himmelman, Sackville; nephews, David (Susan) Ackman, Hebbs Cross; Robert Ackman, Saskatchenwan; niece’s Brenda Ackman, Ottawa; Evelyn (Calvin) Keddy, Berwick; Francis Robar, Bridgewater; Patricia (Mel) Ross, Sackville and several grandniece’s and grandnephew’s. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Evelyn; brother, Lee; sisters, Annie, Eileen and Barbara. He will be sadly missed by Susan Ackman and grandkids Heather and Scott. Special heartful thanks to the Staff of the Lunenburg Palliative Care, Dr. David Abriel, nurses Bonny Sweet and Noleen Ryan and our VON nurse Liz Lawson. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the care of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where visitation will be held on Nov. 11, from 2-4pm. A celebration of Norbert’s life will be held on Monday, Nov. 12 at 1:30 in St. John’s Anglican Church, West Dublin, Rev. Oliver Osmond officiating. A reception will follow in the West Dublin Hall. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, West Dublin. Family flowers only. At Norbert’s request, memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg County Palliative Care and the Victorian Order of Nurses.
