Obituary of Lavonne Pearl Conrad

Lavonne Pearl Conrad 78, Bridgewater, passed away suddenly on November 28, 2012 in South Shore Regional Hospital. Born March 11, 1934, she was the oldest child of the late Gurney and Sadie (Cross) Hirtle. She is survived by daughters Hilary (Mike) Chisholm, Upper Tantallon and Heather, Cole Harbour; son Robert (Lise), Sudbury; grandchildren Amy and David Lawrence, Cody Conrad, Justin and Ashley Wills (JasonTilbury); great grandchildren Audrey and Makenna; sisters Lila (Glen) Lacey, Doris Stevens, Linda McAllistair; sisters-in-law Ann Graham and Mayola Canton; aunt Edna Hirtle, many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husband Gerald, brothers Ellis and Leslie Hirtle. Lavonne graduated from Normal College and began teaching at the age of 18. She taught in Clearland, Middle Cornwall and East La Have where she met Gerry. Although she left teaching in the school system to raise her children, there are many who have benefited from her teaching skills over the years . After Gerry’s reti rement, they worked for the Lunenburg County Housing Authority. Lavonne was a long-time supporter of New Life Christian Church, where she felt surrounded by family. Arrangements are under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater where visitation will take place on Friday, November 30 from 2-4 and 7-9. Graveside service will be held at the Creek Hill Cemetery, Riverport, at 11 am Saturday, December 1, followed by a memorial service, 2 pm at New Life Christian Church, Elm Street, Bridgewater. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to New Life Christian Church, the Bridgewater Interchurch (or other) Food Bank, or a charity of your choice.
