Franklyn Charles Dorey
Passed away peacefully on October 01, 2012 at home in Dublin Shore at the age of 85. Born in, Clearland, NS on July 29, 1927 to Roy & Mae (Langille) Dorey. He attended school until grade 7 at that point he ventured out to work to start his livelihood. Franklyn had started his working life at a very young age in the early 1940’s going to sea on merchant steamers. His way of life took him to many ports in the Caribbean and other areas in the Atlantic. In 1947 he met his soul mate, Eleanor (Himmelman). In April 1954, they were married. In the early 1960’s, wanting to be home with a desire to start his own business, he became a fish peddler. He ran this with success until 1963, to which he ventured into a poultry farm in LaHave. This operation grew such that in the late 1960’s he acquired more land in Dublin Shore. For a time during this expansion, a hog operation was added as well. Farming was hard work for him but he enjoyed it to which he never rested. Working 7 days a week, a vacation or time off was something that was not in his vocabulary. By the mid-1970’s, always wanting a new challenge, he tried his hand at the housing rental business and continued this into his senior years. Only health issues finally forced him to change his pace. Franklyn always wanted his family close by as it gave him great comfort, knowing that they were nearby and that everyone was safe and secure was at the top of his mind. Besides his wife, Eleanor, he leaves behind son John, Dublin Shore, who became his full time caregiver and met his daily needs until his passing. Also leaves son Daniel (Stacey) Dublin Shore, and daughter Alice (Craig) Hirtle, Ottawa, Ont. Five grandchildren, Christopher (Stephanie) Hirtle, Dublin Shore, Alyssa and Emily Hirtle, Ottawa, Ont., Anna and Steven Dorey, Bridgewater, NS. Sister, Louella Parks in Lilydale.
