Obituary of Lewis Charles Horne

Lewis Charles Horne 87, Bridgewater. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Uncle Lewie Horne, who passed away November 8th in South Shore Regional Hospital following a brief but valiant battle with cancer. Born in Bridgewater in 1925, he was the son of the late Simon and Laliah (Conrad) Horne. Lewie served as a private in the army and was stationed in Orillia, Ontario and was a lifetime member of the Bridgewater Legion, Branch #24. He held a variety of jobs starting at an early age including working at Sackville Harness(NB), Baker's Leather Goods Store, King Street, Bridgewater, Dawson Memorial Hospital as an overnight switchboard operator and as a private chauffeur for the late Dr. Elizabeth Hall. Lewie was also one of the first employees at the Bridgewater Michelin Plant beginning on August 2nd, 1971 until his retirement on April 30th, 1988. He turned his working with leather into a hobby when he retired making everything from belts to purses, to chess boards and oxen pads and enjoyed selling his goods at the Sunday flea market at the Bridgewater Mall. Lewie was a lifelong bachelor and is survived by his nephews, Ted and Scott Fillmore(Bridgewater), Blair (Monique) Fillmore, Shelburne, nieces Joan and Sandy Fillmore (Bridgewater), Twilah Conrad, Malden, Mass(USA), great nephew Richard D'appolonio, Amherst, great nephew and niece, James and Rosalyn Fillmore, Shelburne and cousin June (Sonny) Manthorne, Bridgewater. Lewie was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Frances Rosalie Fillmore and Ena Conrad, niece, Charlotte (Fillmore) D'appolonio. Cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, where on-line condolences can be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army, the NS Heart and Stroke Foundation or charity of choice. Special thanks to Drs. Gisele Marier and Diane Edmonds, and to the wonderful and caring nurses on the 4th floor at SSRH.
