Obituary of Earle Raymond Langille
Earle Raymond Langille
Died on Friday, January 15, 2016 at his home in Bridgewater. Born in Mahone Bay on September 20, 1920 he was the son of the late LeRoy and Clarice Langille. He attended and graduated from Mahone Bay High School. He then went on to study at the Provincial Normal School from 1942-43, later he also attended Mount Allison, Acadia and St. Mary's Universities. He served with the West Nova Scotia Regiment from September 1939-40, having signed up for overseas service; he was discharged due to illness. After a period of recovery be began teaching, serving in various schools in Pictou, Colchester, Halifax and Lunenburg Counties. In 1960 he was appointed principal of Hebbville Consolidated Junior High School from where he retired from teaching in 1981, while also acting as Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the Lunenburg Municipal School Board. He was active in the Lunenburg County Retired Teachers Association; he was a member and elder of the Bridgewater United Church for 50 years. He had an interest in museums, having served as President of the Lunenburg County Historical Society, Chairman of the DesBrisay Museum and on the Nova Scotia Museum Complex for 25 years. His organic vegetable garden provided produce for his family and neighbors. After retirement he and his late wife, Christine, travelled to various countries, cruising to the Baltic Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, Alaska, around Cape Horn and South America. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch #49, Mahone Bay for 65 years and a member of Acacia #39 Masonic Lodge for 70 years. In the Lodge, he served as chairman of the Scholarship committee for 5 years and had been the Chaplain. He was predeceased by his wife, Christine; sister, Virginia. Survived by brother, Allan (Marion) Langille, Maders Cove; son, Peter (Evelyn Morgan-Langille) Langille; grandchildren, Morgan, Durham and Perrin, all of Brights Grove, Ont. Memorial service will be held 1 p.m., Monday, January 18 in Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater, followed by a reception in the Christian Education Center. Memorial donations to the Bridgewater United Church building fund or to the charity of choice.
