I first met Sue and Neiff Joseph in 1981 when I began visiting Bridgewater and later owned a house in Middle LaHave with my then wife Elizabeth. He was an easy person to be with totally sans façon and I always enjoyed his company. I have two distinct memories of Neiff - both involving food.
The first was one summer evening when he and Sue came down the LaHave River for dinner al fresco at ours. My mother was visiting us and she had made one of her specialties - roast red peppers - as a side dish to the grilled meats we had that evening. It's one of those simple dishes (three ingredients: the peppers are roasted, skinned and sliced with good wine vinegar and olive oil) which is addicting the first time you have it. Neiff, after first taste, politely but firmly took control of the bowl.
The second was during a Paris winter a couple years later where Elizabeth and I were living at the time. Neiff was passing through, returning from a surveying job he had just finished in Libya. He and a colleague, a cousin if I am remembering correctly, saw our fire place and fire wood. They started a fire and prepared kefta (can't remember if they found the ingredients in the kitchen or we ran out to get them.) from scratch and then grilled them over the fire. Fine country fare grilled on an open fire in the midst of Paris.
Thanks to Neiff and Sue for some fond memories of my years in Nova Scotia and a quickie with Neiff in Paris.
My condolences Alan

Our deepest condolences to the Joseph Family, Neiff was my neighbour for the last 20 some years, and we were very sorry to hear of his passing.
Neiff was a one of a kind person always busy doing something, and always fixing his cars he had in his back yard. I have day lilies in my garden that Neiff gave me, he gave them to me about 6 years ago and they bloom beautifully ever year. Thank you Neiff.
With deepest sympathy, Sharon and Paul.

A Land Surveyor like Neiff, I got to know him when we worked together on a geodetic survey project in Libya in 1983. He taught me my first few words of Arabic, and we often passed the long hours of waiting telling each other stories and reflecting on our lives and our families back in Nova Scotia, which we missed greatly. My condolences to all his family and especially to Mustapha (his nephew?), who also worked with us on the Libyan project.

On behalf of the members of the Association of Nova Scotia Land Surveyors, I extend our deepest sympathy to family and friends. Like all land surveyors, Neiff leaves a recorded legacy for the benefit of land owners who occupy lands upon which, Neiff has left his foot print for future generations.

A perfect obituary for a wonderful man, possessed of the greatest of hearts, the most generous point of view, the wisest and most wide ranging of minds. He was a blessing to me and Melissa. A joy. A source of help and comfort. And more fun than The Bill Lynch Shows. Neiff managed pride without ever letting go of humility. Try that yourself sometime. We've lost a rare one. I loved him.
