I remember Gary & Gene Palmer when I was at Suncor in early to mid 1980’s, they both worked at the time, with Dianne (I think) at Northstar Drillstem Testers; back when they did such things, & yes he liked to have fun; especially in Cranbrook.

My name is Leanne Kelley, and I was struck with extreme misfortune to not be at the funeral of Gary MacNeil. Gary was my godfather. The best. There was never a time that he did not treat me like a princess and make me laugh. A good man, with an incredible sense of humour and an even bigger heart. I think, and pray for him every day since his passing, although I know that if there is a better place out there..... that is exactly where this beautiful person would be. He will be more than missed. I love him and miss him very much. Rest in peace Gary. I will see you again. I love you. Always and forever.

I have many good memories of our youth and being in the MacNeil house with Gary and Charles. All of my travels seemed to pass through the MacNeill house to collect Gary and Charles on the way to school, hockey or some other activity. Gary brought a competitive winning spirit to everything he did. He will be greatly missed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family at this difficult time.

To the MacNeil family: I am so sorry to hear about Gary's passing. Gary was part of the fun during my high school years in Bridgewater.
Several years ago, I bumped into him at the Legion and even though it had been decades since I saw him, he just picked up where we left off, and chatted like it was yesterday (joking, laughing and poking fun). He achieved a lot in such a short time and he will be missed.

I moved from Bridgewater a long time ago as well. I now live in Yellowknife. In my early youth, I played hockey with Gary and attended Bridgewater Elementary / Junior High Schools with him. I always found him to be a straight and true friend. I have believed for many years that the only thing we take with us to the grave is our integrity. And Gary always had that in spades. I am shocked and saddened by this news. Words don't help much. Please know that many many people will miss him - even those like me, who haven't seen him in over 40 years. This is a brutally hard pill to swallow for you guys. I will keep Gary and you in my prayers. St Augustine said that man falls into his grave holding in his clenched hands only that which he has given away. By that measure alone, I'm sure Gary will be just fine. Wishing you peace. That is all I can really do. Michael Hughes (son of Mary and Jack)

To the MacNeil family,
Having grown up in Bridgewater I got to know Gary through John (his younger brother). As a teenager Gary both scared me and impressed me! He was larger than life and exuded confidence in everything he did. As I grew older and moved away he became a bit of a legend to me – a self made man who had garnered success and notoriety in all his personal and business ventures. When I reflect on my interactions with Gary over the years there was one constant - his natural ability to instantly connect with people regardless of their age, background or occupation - this was his true gift . I always looked forward to catching up with him when I visited Bridgewater in the summer - I will miss listening to his stories, we all will.

Even though circumstances in our families changed he and I remained friends. We didn't see each other a lot but when we did it was fun to talk about whatever subject came up. I was happy when I heard he had purchased Greek's. He was one of those people who needed to be involved. When I last spoke to him he was excited about his new role, ideas, plans etc for his business. I hope that as times passes you are able look back and smile at all the good memories that he helped create. I have some of my own.
