Obituary of Jeffery Kent Mayo
MAYO, Jeffery Kent – Age 44, Falkland Ridge, Annapolis Co., passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of Cyril and Patricia “Pat” (Dauphinee) Mayo, West Northfield.
Jeff was larger than life with a sense of humour and sarcasm that was only a demonstration of the big hearted and loving guy he really was. He loved to laugh but loved his family more. Jeff was a sports enthusiast. His passion for them came from his mother, Patricia, and was developed over the years while competing with his brothers Cy, Mark and Matthew on the field, court and ice while growing up. A basketball enthusiast, Jeff played for Park View Education Center and was a member of the two-time Provincial Champion Men’s Basketball program. After graduating from Park View, he took his love of basketball to Dalhousie University where he was a member of the Men’s Basketball team from 1992-1996 and was a two-time AUS All-Star and All-Canadian. A graduate from Dalhousie University with a degree in commerce, Jeff was an entrepreneur at heart; a dedicated and hard worker. His entrepreneurial spirit drove him in various business ventures and, most recently, he and his wife, Laura, owned and operated a successful and much loved food truck, affectionately known as “Mumma”s Stink Pot”, in New Germany. Jeff was nostalgic and loved to reminisce about everything and anything old and interesting. He thoroughly enjoyed watching his nieces and nephews play sports and challenging them in a game, using his size to “teach them a lesson”. He will be remembered for his wonderful smile, generous heart and love of his family and friends.
His struggle is over now and he leaves to mourn, his wife, Laura Ann Birnie; his parents, Cyril and Pat; brothers, Cy (Kim) Mayo, Wentzell Lake; Mark (Kristina) Mayo, Philadelphia; Matthew (Melissa) Mayo, Truro; father-in-law, Brian (Kathy) Birnie, Springfield and all the Birnie and McDade family members; nieces and nephews, Rylan, Amarra, Christopher, James, Colten, Alexis, Logan and Jonathan; aunts and uncles, Arthur (Jayne) Dauphinee, Erna (Wilfred) Joudrey, Kevin (Wendy) Mayo, May (Bobby) Cormier, Jamesie Mayo and Sylvie Mayo, as well as much loved, life long best friend, Timmy Feeney.
He was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Gordon and Dona Mayo; maternal grandparents, Bert and Ivy Dauphinee; mother-in-law, Colleen Birnie; uncles, Robert Mayo, Calvin Mayo.
