Obituary of Barbara Elizabeth O’Kroneg

 

O’KRONEG, Barbara Elizabeth (nee Phillips) - Age 69, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia.  Born March 21, 1949, in Kingston Ontario; she was predeceased by her parents, Kathleen and Gordon Phillips and step-brother, Peter Phillips.

Barbara will be dearly missed by her husband of 49 years, Ted O’Kroneg; her daughters, Keri O’Kroneg (Rick) and Tracy O’Kroneg (Geoff) and her beloved grandson, Ryan O’Kroneg.  Barbara is also survived by two sisters, Mary Gourlay (Jim), Patricia Gashinski (Ron) and her niece, Laurie; nephews, Michael, Jeffrey, Kevin, Chris, Barry and many other loving relatives and close friends;  brother-in-law, John O'Kroneg (Mary-Jo); mother-in-law, Wiesje O'Kroneg.

Raised in Atikokan, Ontario, Barbara married her high school sweetheart Ted in 1969 and together they lived a life of adventure residing in multiple provinces across the country and finally settling in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia where they owned and operated a successful business.

In addition to her success as a business woman, Barbara was a remarkable cook and she enjoyed sharing her knowledge of cooking and preparing fabulous meals also for her family and friends. Barbara also had a talent in knitting, quilting and gardening.  Together, Barbara and Ted shared a love of travel and spent many winters in Florida with friends.  A loving spirit, Barbara will be remembered for her generosity and kindness who always put family and friends first.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the many healthcare professionals who assisted with Barbara’s care over the past three years.

At the request of Barbara, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria’s Quilts Canada (victoriasquiltscanada.com), a non-profit organization of volunteers who make quilts for cancer patients, or the South Shore Regional Hospital Oncology Unit.
