Obituary of Dr. Anthony Robert Atkinson
ATKINSON, Dr. Anthony Robert - Age 67, passed away peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, on March 20, 2019. He is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Dorothy (Schofield); and son, David. He is survived by siblings, Michael, Carolyn (Addison), Elaine (Linter), and son, Mark. Born in England, Dr. Atkinson earned his M.A. Physiological Science at Oxford University, UK, his M.B.B.S. at St. Georges Hospital Medical School, University of London, UK, and completed his post graduate training at London and Bristol Universities, UK and Dalhousie University. He was a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, Royal College of Physicians of Canada, and the Royal College of Physicians (London, UK). After completing his post graduate training at Dalhousie, Dr. Atkinson moved to Bridgewater to start a family and establish his medical practice. A highly regarded physician, Dr Atkinson spent many long days and nights helping patients both in his office and at South Shore Regional Hospital. A lover of sports, Dr. Atkinson enjoyed rowing, sailing, rugby (coaching at PVEC and playing for the Lunenburg County Rhinos), tennis, golf, and skiing. He loved watching his sons, Mark and Dave play baseball, and even when he was still learning the rules, he was always cheering loudly. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children's Wish Foundation or Ronald McDonald House.
