I haven't spoken with George and you in a few years and was sorry to read this obituary. I worked with George at West Northfield Elementary School and remember how hard he worked with the architects and construction crew to get the new school building from a dream to a reality in 1991-92. Even though I am sure it was frustrating at times, George seemed very proud of the new building, as well as the school as a community. He seemed to take working in a construction zone all in stride and even managed to keep a sense of humour throughout the process, which was trying at times! Most of all, he really connected with the students and could often be seen moving softball and floor hockey equipment from the storage area to the gym and field to make sure that students had opportunities to play. I have been recalling many "George" stories, with a smile.

We are devastated by the passing of George.
We will be forever grateful for all you've done for us. You guys rescued my family when they were lost and scared and with nothing, but the clothes on their backs.
It's because of your giving and loving nature that we've been given the opportunity to make something of ourselves and raise a family in a normal healthy environment. You all gave us a LIFE.
We want you to know that all of you will always have place in our hearts.
Sending love and prayers your way,

Dear Linda and Beth,
Very sad to hear the news of George's passing. He taught me high school math many years ago and earned my respect and admiration, not only for his knowledge but for his patience and efforts to reach all of his students in what was often a challenging subject for many.
Over the years George became much more than a former teacher. He was a kind, caring and most interesting friend. I very much enjoyed our "protracted" conversations on a wide variety of subjects, which always included catching up on mutual friends.
George was a really good guy and I will miss him very much.
Keep your good memories close. May they bring you peace.
Sincerely,
Paul

Dear Linda and Beth,
David and I wish you the strength required and the comfort of happy memories at this very sad time. George was such a trooper and not only a good friend and colleague but always a person who seemed full of life and ready for the next challenge. From our perspective, he lived life to the full and he did indeed enjoy sharing his exploits. I could not believe that soon after he retired he was often skiing downhill in the winter months. No fear.
We do hope that there will eventually be an opportunity for a time to celebrate George's life and contributions to our world.
Our love and sincere condolences.

During the 1966–1967 school year, George and Linda hosted me at bridge evenings, buoyed me up during a challenging first year of attempting to teach high school. They taught me more than the finer points of Goren’s bidding.
A fellow teacher from “the old” Bridgewater High remembers the Lowes’ inviting him to dinner during his “bachelor years.”
Had not known of George’s mining experiences or of his valuable sponsoring contributions to potential “new Canadians.“
George Lowe’s, a life well lived.

Mr. Lowe was our elementary school principal. He excitedly taught me math “ Good morning, good morning, good math, good math” while he flipped his tie. He was also, as it says, he was a supporter of all things that got kids involved. I remember clearly playing after school softball in the back field (again in his shirt & tie) and if the game ended in a tie he’d say “ Mr. Lowe wins”. I didn’t always get it back then or like the tie, but I figured it out! I then remember saying same thing to kids when there was a tie in elementary PE!
Goes to show that, while teacher’s teach subjects- the good ones capture the heart & connect with their kids anyway they can. I was fortunate to have many teacher’s like that and that maybe their greatest legacy is passing that lesson onto me!
I also didn’t know Mr. Lowe was a UNB Grad!

Dear Linda and Beth,
I loved George. He had a kind heart, was always helpful and lovable.I will always cherish how openly he welcomed me into his family and the support he gave me through tough times.
I remember his long awesome stories about Flin Flon and his family out west.
I'll remember our extensive game nights with Sequence, Golf and Marbles. And I will never forget the beautiful trips we took together. To the carribean beaches of Nova Scotia, to the city of Barcelona and most of all our trip to the Tuscany for Linda's and George's 50th wedding anniversary.
With a smile on my face I remember the last time I met George in person. We were sitting in Beth's and Marcel's garden singing Christmas Carrols with my 94 year old mother. Who sings Christmas Carrols on the deck in Summer if not George just to make an old lady happy.
Words cannot do George justice so we should rather live by his example. Linda and Beth, I wish you strength in these tough times and I am always there for you.

Dear Linda and beth:
So sorry to hear about George's passing. I know all of us Linehan crew have so many lovely memories of George over the years, (quite a few of them from some fairly wild St Patrick's Day parties in West LaHave with Therese and Donal.) George was always so very kind and interested in us, and had such funny stories about his travels. I can only imagine that he is free of all worldly troubles and pain, reunited with David, and connecting with Dad and Ellis and a few more cronies to share stories and laughs. Love to you both.

Dear George,
Do you remember our first Christmas together? Do you remember how Linda and you invited Sigrid and me to spent Christmas with your family?
I had just recently met Beth but you took us in and instantly made us part of your family. Not ever before have I felt so genuinely welcome. And never before did I have to cut my own Christmas tree…
Right then and there I knew that you were special and as kind hearted as they come.
Not once have I heard you speak ill of another person or be disgruntled. In the 14 years I was fortunate enough to know you I only remember one time we had a big fight. You would just not let me change that handle on the door to your deck...
You have supported and encouraged every decision and choice Beth and I have made along our journey together. That was just the kind of person you were. Always there for other people, no matter what.
Through you and Linda I have met your friends and family and I feel that you have been truly blessed to be around such wonderful people all your life.
I wished I would have met you earlier in life and known you in your prime, driving cars into lakes and dressing in bikini tops for a Hawaiian luau. But although your physical health was not the best you stayed curious and active. Sometimes it was not easy to keep up with you. When the young(er) folks needed a rest you'd just head out again, plant geraniums or mow the lawn. You were never too tired or too old to see or learn something new.
How blessed you were to always have lived life to the fullest. When I look at the variety of people posting on this wall and the condolences Linda and Beth received in the last couple of days, I know that you had a great impact on many people's life. How can a life have more meaning or be more fulfilled than yours?
I will miss your stories about Flin Flon your parents and your family out west. I'll miss the stories about your friends, countless travels and people you have met along the way. When you'd say, "did I ever tell you about...?", I knew I was in for a long one.
Sometimes Beth says that I am a little like you and I take that as a great compliment. Words just don't give you credit but I'll try to be a little more like you every day.
You will be greatly missed but we'll carry on. We'll stay curious and kind at heart. We'll travel the world and make great friends along the way.
You will always have a special place in my heart.
I love you.

Dear Linda & Beth:
I was so sorry to read of George’s death in this morning’s obits. Condolences from the Toomey's - Lucine, John, Mark and Janet.
I have many great Lowe memories of our time together in Bridgewater. The Lowe’s were a big part of our lives. I remember our Christmas Day visits; dances and socials at the Curling Club; Mrs. Lowe’s “peppy visits”; mid afternoon coffee Klatches and lasting friendship. I will never forget George. He gave me one of my fondest and funniest memories. It still has the ability to double me over laughing. Remember the June teachers “end of the school year picnic”? George had the hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls etc.in the trunk of his car. He drove the car to the edge of the lake; put it in neutral instead of park; got out of the car and in George mode, started talking. The car started rolling into the lake and everyone watched - mouths agape as the car submerged. It took a few minutes but Ray and Bill sprung into action and rescued the food from the trunk. The rolls floated to the top in their plastic bags. The lit the barbecue and the picnic continued. However, we never let George forget the incident.
The car was towed from the lake; the seats were soaked and had to be removed. The best part for me was to see George driving around town ,in the car-in a lawn chair for the next two weeks. George was formidable, not to be stopped by anything. I will take that “so George” memory to my grave.
Love and best wishes from the Toomey's. The Lowe’s were an important part of our lives during our many years in Bridgewater. George will be missed but not forgotten.
Lucine Toomey

Dear Linda and Beth and George's extended family - We are very sorry to learn of George's passing. The Bridge Buddies of over 50 years will never in their wildest dreams be able to replace you and your bidding.
I think you were the best and they all new that. So many times I would hear your teacher's voice telling them where they went wrong...and this continued right until the end.
We knew you were struggling physically the last months but you never gave in and when there was a night to play bridge you were going to be there. Such determination but then again George I knew your mother and you came by it honest.
We will think of you often - so many stories to tell and so many great memories.
I looked through my files this morning on my computer and came up with over 60 photos of you at the many, many social gatherings. I am sure I will be able to find more but my eyes grew tired of looking back over 20++ years.
Our thoughts are with Linda and Beth and we wish them peace. They will have dozens and dozens of memories to carry them through on sad days.
Peace be with you George. (Black instant coffee and not too hot.....now let's play bridge)
