Sad to read Elmer has passed. Most of my memories come from those early years on Jubilee Road. Growing up next door it was easy to see he was a wonderful father and husband. One of my first nights away from home was overnight in Vogler's Cove with Elmer and Peter and going fishing the next day; my first time fishing and a real adventure for me and memorable for all the right reasons. Always felt welcome at the house and enjoyed the calendars in the basement. Obviously he lived a good full life, sad about Ruby, but he can look down now and be proud of his three great kids. The kid next door, Greg Corkum.

Dear Mass: Thank you for giving me my first job at Hilltop Canteen, age 14, 65 cents/hr; forgiving me for the glass orange-drink machine disaster; allowing us to drive your red Pontiac which sometimes needed a screwdriver to start; taking the whole canteen crew to Lake Mushamush - I can still hear your hearty laugh at our giggles and squeals as we stumble along the wooded path in the pitch-black; the bear hugs that lifted me off my feet; the occasional wee London Dock, you and Ruby always making me feel welcomed.
Dear Nita, Peter, Michael and families: I share your sadness and my tears are mixed with smiles of many fond memories.
With Love, Norene

Elmer was the son of my Grandmother’s sister - Grace. As a young girl I would stay with Grace for a few days while visiting my Grandmother. I met Elmer a few years ago in Waves Restaurant. I hadn’t seen him in a hundred years; but, he looked great! I had no idea he had done so many things in his life. God Bless you Elmer and condolences to the family he left behind. So sorry to hear about Elmer's passing. Not only the last of the family but also the last of his generation. As a child we often went to the Farmers Canteen at ' Hilltop ' on Aberdeen Road for an ice cream & see the animals. Later it was Rissers Beach where we spent our summers. I ate many breakfasts & hamburgers prepared by he & Ruby. I think he employed nearly every teenage girl in Petite Riviere at one time or another. In later years I only got to see Elmer & Ruby when I was home from Alberta on holidays & usually then it was likely some family members funeral. We often sat & talked about family history & growing up in Voglers Cove. In late years he would ' know ' me but often confused me with my father. I'll miss him.

I remember "Mr. Mason" from as far back as I can remember. He was one of those larger than life people that influenced my upbringing in a most positive way. Reading his obituary brought back so many flashes of memory. He seemed to be everywhere, so involved in family and community. I feel so fortunate to have know him. I am saddened to hear of his passing. To to you Mike, Juanita, Peter, and your families I send my deepest condolences and best wishes.
