Here is Steve aged 18 as a member of Godalming Grammar School Soccer team. The little cup was the highlight of our year as we won the County six a side tournament for the only time in the school’ s history. Steve and I shared a flat in London for the first two years of our University courses. It was our introduction to life in the big city. Steve always entered into every venture with great enthusiasm and it is wonderful to read of all his different activities. My condolences to all his family and friends Dick Womack

I had Mr.Briggs as a geography teacher at Parkview in the late 90's. I always like geography, but Mr.Briggs made the content even more interesting and engaging. At the time I had no idea he had led such a well traveled, interesting and full life. I feel thankful and lucky to have known him. From our family to yours, please accept our sincere sympathies for your loss. - The Sarausky Family

Steve was my favourite high school teacher. Not because I loved economics, but because his enthusiasm and lust for life was contagious. A funny little memory...one afternoon during class, a little bird flew into the glass window. It made a loud noise for such a tiny bird. Steve stopped class and went outside to see if it was okay. As he bent down beside it, the little bird fluttered its wings and flew away. Steve came back in smiling and reassured the class the bird was okay.
My condolences to his family and all who love Steve.

I taught next door to Steve for several years at Park View and his dedication to his students and the level of professional that he brought to his teaching was something to be admired. I always enjoyed hearing about the hiking adventures he and his soul mate Susan would embark on. Steve’s passion for living life to the fullest was an inspiration.

So sorry to hear this news. Mr.Briggs was such an energetic and enthusiastic teacher and the main reason I took up Economics as my field of study after PVEC. I will always remember piling into the back of his beloved Volkswagen Fox and driving to Halifax for an Economics game competition with other high schools. That poor car struggled under the weight of the four of us kids stuffed inside but he never wavered in his belief that it was the best car in the world. My condolences to his family and friends.

I remember Steve very well. He was a wonderful teacher and a very by the book teacher .I spent many years with him and some very difficult students. He was well known for students who wouldn’t conform , to tell them to go to the back room. We often joked about the back room, which was really his office to discipline students in his office .
I have fond memories of him and I know her will be missed . He is gone but not forgotten.

My condolences on Steve's passing, he was a lovely man and so enthusiastic about his students, opportunities for them and life. He was my contact for many years at PVEC for Junior Achievement of Nova Scotia. He went above and beyond to ensure all the students in the school heard about our programs each year. He was a true Ambassador for JA. We had wonderful yearly chats about hiking, paddling and life in general and he really made a great impression on me and so many of his students. --Brenda Kenney

Oh Mr. Briggs…who is this Stephen anyway? :) I seriously could not call him that. He is forever Mr. Briggs to me. Such a genuine, caring, hard working, funny and just plain lovely man. I used to love eavesdropping on your conversations over the PA at the end of the day, Susan. You two are certainly the epitome of what a loving and caring relationship is. I am sending you the biggest hugs I possibly can until I see you in person. In the meantime, as per usual, if you hear lots of honking, it’s me on the way to or from the beach. Much love to you. And to you too Mr. Briggs!

Dear Susan,
Jim and I were so saddened to hear of Steve's untimely passing. We enjoyed you both as landscape clients; you were always a pleasure to work with. We also have wonderful memories of Steve as our son's soccer coach at Parkview. The lads always got suck a kick out of Steve, on the sidelines wearing his 'wellies" giving them encouragement and direction. He wore them even if it was dry! We know that the last few years have been very difficult with Steve's illness. We also know that you will miss him terribly, but hope that you can take solace in the wonderful years you shared together. Please know that we are thinking of you warmly, and with great sympathy.

I had Grant as my Economics teacher in High School at Park View for two years 2002-2004...without a doubt one of my favorite teachers from all those I had from my school days, even into university. He was a very funny, genuine man and had a wonderful way of keeping us invested in the subject and truly cared for his students. I went on to become a teacher and part of that could be owed to Mr. Briggs as a role model. Thank you and Godspeed Grant - you will be missed and you made a difference in many, many lives. My sincere condolences to his family and friends...

So very sorry to hear of your family loss. Steve was a kind, pleasant, generous and a friend to all, type of person.
He was a very engaging person and was not a watcher but a doer. A man that enjoyed others and life in general. He was a great teacher and adored by many students; as his personality endured him to all people. One of the best has been lost, a friend to all.
May the memories of all the moments you've shared together ease the sadness in your heart and bring you comfort in this time of loss.

I had the good fortune of teaching at Park View with Steve. He was a Social Studies colleague and we taught next to each other for a number of years. I will remember our many casual conversations about global affairs, ‘football’ during the World Cup, weekends and hikes, flowers and gardens, political happenings ‘across the pond’ (I still don’t know what the Labour Party is all about), and life in general. ‘Briggsy’ was a kind, passionate, prepared and dedicated teacher who never had a bad thing to say about a student or colleague. I will always remember his short sleeve shirt and skinny ties. He would always have a good laugh when I’d ask him if he and Susan had yet bought the annual Christmas Cornish hen and whether he made a big soup with the leftovers. To Susan, I can only say that whenever Steve talked about you, the weekends together and your many hikes and exploits, he lit up and truly had the look of love.

Susan, I am so sad to read this news. Steve was indeed an adventurer and always willing to muck in to support and lend a hand. I have great memories of Steve at PVEC and in particular you be track and field provincials and him enjoying cheese and onion sandwiches that my Mum made under the shade of a tree. It was so comforting to share this British taste with some who appreciated it. From personal experience the last number of years would have been challenging but I am sure Steve kept his smile. Thinking of you and sending hugs. Fiona

Mr Briggs, as we all knew was an amazing teacher. I was one of the fortunate students to share a home room with him in his very first year “The Exchange” year. His presence was engaging and exciting. He had a passion for teaching and life. He certainly touched the hearts of everyone in New Germany, the young Miss Joudrey at the elementary school XO. Susan you were his soul mate and no truer a love have I ever seen. I am so privileged and honoured to have had him as a teacher but to know him as well as a person. I Am truly sorry for your loss.

I was the teacher that exchanged with Steve in 1990. For my first week in England Steve was there to guide me through the changes I would be facing and to show me around the area. I got to meet his parents, niece, and best friends. How I would have survived without his help and guidance I don't know. Steve's help made it easier to enjoy a very special year in England. I always felt we shared a special bond and I will miss him greatly.
