Obituary of Shirley Virginia Ross

ROSS (Sperry), Shirley Virginia – Age 94, of Halifax, formerly of Lahave, Lunenburg Co., passed away, Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the QEII Infirmary, Halifax. She was the daughter of the late Hector and Lillian (Bell) Sperry.

Shirley attended teachers’ college, in Truro, and taught several years in single room schools in the Lunenburg County region. Later, she would work as a telephone switchboard operator in Bridgewater. She also spent a time in her life, residing in Yarmouth with her late husband, Preston Ross.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Diane (Stephen) Pineo; Mississauga, ONT., grandson, Alekzander Pineo, Mississauga ONT.; and brother, Percy Sperry, Dartmouth. She was predeceased by her brothers, Bob, Lorraine, Paul, Hector Jr., and sisters, Bella Duffy and Marina O’Hearn.

There will be no visitation by the family’s request. A public graveside memorial service for Shirley will be held on Friday July 15, 2022, in Brookside Cemetery, West Dublin at 1 pm. Rev. Matthew Lee officiating. A public reception will be held at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater, following the interment. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, public donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Knox Presbyterian Church, in Dublin Shore, or a charity of choice.
