My condolences to the Porter family on Doug’s passing. He certainly led a good life serving his Lord. I didn’t know Doug that well since he had left Hebron when I was still young but my parents were great friends with Doug’s parents, Andrew and Lillian. There has been a close connection to our families especially when Peg married my cousin Jim. I was also fortunate to have had Doug’s father build my house which was one, if not the last one, he built before he retired and that was back in 1976. My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you go through this most difficult time but you have the comfort of knowing he served his Lord faithfully and has passed on to eternal glory.

Dear Porter family,
You are all in my prayers. I treasure the many wonderful memories of times spent with our dear brother Doug in Nova Scotia and in Ontario and am thankful for the privilege that was mine to know him, and work with him for many years to impact lives in Ghana for our Lord's glory. Our marvellous hope is that he is now free of pain and rejoicing with the Lord and the saints that have gone ahead. May His peace rule in your hearts.

To Ella's and the rest of Doug's family, our condolences on your great loss. Doug lived his life as an example of leadership and faithfulness, and he will be missed by all who were touched by either.
He and my dad started down their career paths together, so I've known Doug (and a lot of you, his family) all my life, and I'm glad, and better, for that knowledge.
As you adapt to life without Doug, Carolea and I wish you comfort in knowing that he is with Jesus in a whole new way.

We appreciated the ministry of Doug and Ella, especially at New Cornwall Baptist. Both loved the Lord and the people. Doug always had a challenging message. He will be missed by many as I think he followed his heart and rarely said no when asked to fill in at many churches. Life will be different for you his family but knowing he is a peace will bring you much comfort. Donnie and Beverly Ernst.

Dear Ella:
Linda and I send you our condolences and pray for you and your family knowing that God will, provide you with the strength to deal with the days ahead. It is so wonderful to know that Doug is with the Lord he served so well. Our acquaintanceship was minimal over the years, but for us, always memorable. We enjoyed his preaching so when we came home from Alberta on Holiday. His hearty greetings at the door as we entered the Coldbrook Church were a delight and I enjoyed preaching on several occasions in that Church at his request. We along with Linda's parents, Willis and Carol Hall, now also with the Lord, admired Doug's love of Scripture, his personal integrity and honesty. I always enjoyed being in his company which, while happening infrequently over the years, always left me encouraged and eager to be practicing ministry. We have lost a tireless worker who gave so much to so many. May God bless you Ella and you and your family as you and Doug have blessed so many others.

Dear Porter Family,
I had mixed feelings as I read that Doug had passed away. On the one hand I was saddened for your loss but on the other I am thrilled for Doug as he is "present with the Lord." It was my privilege to work with him for 2 years in Pleasantville during my MDiv studies at Acadia. He was a tireless worker, deeply committed to reaching out into the community and surrounding area. I learned a lot from him and have held him in high regard and looked forward to opportunities to see he and Ella over the years. I trust you will experience God's peace and resurrection hope in these days. I regret that I cannot attend the service, however I know it will be a celebration of his faith and faithfulness to His Lord.

Dear Ella, Phil, Andy, Sandra and family,
We were saddened to read the obituary for Doug. We have fond memories of Doug and Ella when they pastored in Pleasantville and we pastored in Liverpool and Brooklyn in Queens County. There were opportunities to have pulpit exchanges, times of prayer and shared ministry in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Doug was a loyal friend who stood with us when the enemy created problems. We praise the Lord for the way the Holy Spirit developed in Doug's faith, perseverance, courage and a love for people. He modelled pastoral care. Doug would travel distances to share the good news of Jesus with those who were perishing. He also travelled distances to raise support for relief and development overseas. He lived simply so that others could simply live.
As we grieve Doug, we are grateful for the words of the Lord Jesus, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me though he die yet shall he live." John 11:25 We are remembering you in prayer.

I am so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing, he was always a great speaker and I always enjoyed conversations talking about children and grandchildren. He was always admired when he preached in Aylesford and surrounding churches and has been missed since leaving our village.
There are so many stories some incredibly funny involving times when the kids were students of mine at St. Mary’s in Aylesford that bring a smile when I think of Doug and especially David. I will treasure those memories just as I will always treasure his friendship and wise council.
Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers as you celebrate the life of a great man who was always approachable and kind to all.

Thinking and praying for you all as you mourn the loss of a dear man of God. I have so many fond memories of your family stretching all the way back to the early 70s when Doug and Ella and the family came to Stevens Road. Then when Doug was called to Aylesford, it was so great to get to visit in the summers when we were camping in the Valley. I still recall Doug working as a volunteer carpenter when they were building the extension on to the church, and catching Sandra and I getting into mischief (knocking the knots out of the walls). He gave us a good scolding and found us a job nailing down a floor to keep us out of trouble.
While I am sad for his family in their great loss, I am glad that Doug is finally home and with his Saviour, where he has no more pain or heartache.
"Well done you good and faithful servant"
Love
Debbie and Ted Brekelmans (nee Cross)
