We are deeply saddened by the loss of such a wonderful man. I moved here in 1978 and my first place was across the street from Gerry on Smith Avenue. Every year we looked forward to having Christmas with our Gerry tree. He also brought along a small tree for our daughter. He was a kind, gentle soul and we always looked forward to meeting with him and getting his help in picking out our tree. Very sad to hear that Gerry has passed away. He was a big part of my life growing up as the leader in the Scouts and Venturers programs. I only ran into him a few times over the years since, last time was at the running track, and he always remembered me and we shared a few memories from the scouting days. Mr. Holmes took a crew of about a dozen of us Bridgewater Boy Scouts to Canadian Jamboree 1977. That CJ 77 experience was one of the best in my life and Mr. Holmes never failed to let us lead ourselves while remaining the attentive ‘guide on the side’. His community service, positive outlook, love of the outdoors (especially chasing brook trout) and work with young people has led me to try and follow his lead. He was a true leader and I extend my condolences to the entire family. Curtis Snyder
