Wow!
Not long ago, Richard was all but running around that garage putting out fires and helping friends and strangers to get back out on the road.
This man, with his supportive family, has built a thriving service offering quality work as well as a quality workspace for experienced and up-and-coming professional mechanics.
I'd ask: When will you retire?"... his answer: "Retire... what's that?", beaming a broad smile.
His enthusiasm for life and his honest candor will be missed!
He was enjoying working AND he knew how to enjoy life and his family and friends. He lived a good life, although not long enough for all of us!
Sherri and I share thoughts of love and peace for his family in this time of loss- we share that burden with you.

I lived next to the Knickle's for a short time and had the pleasure of meeting Richard. I was working on my Jeep in the backyard with limited tools. Richard offered to loan me the tools I didn't have access to in order to finish the job correctly. He even hired me to help out at his shop when I ran into money troubles.
Richard is easily one of the best people I've ever had the pleasure to meet and I was also fortunate enough to meet his family. I offer my condolences to them during this difficult time and would like to thank them for being the type of neighbors you hope for.

Dear Jason, Janine and Janell,
Tara, Nadia and I are deeply sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I've been bringing my vehicles to Lahave Street Auto since 1996 and Richard was always generous with his time and skill as a mechanic. I often drive less-than-new vehicles and no matter what I drove into the shop, in whatever condition or make, while Richard might have snickered at my choices, he would always work hard to find a fix for me. Richard was always a strong supporter of community initiatives and non-profits like HeartWood, lending a hand to fix our 15 seat passenger van or safety our canoe trailer. He once hosted a young person who was interested in mechanics at the shop from our leadership camp as a job-shadow.
Richard will be missed in so many ways by so many. I'm glad I got to know him over these past 25 years.

I asked a random person in Bridgewater whete to take my ban for repairs and he gave me directions to Richard's auto repair. What a great guy! The next thing we knew we were invited into a Nova Scotian world of friendship and sailing. We even became members of the wonderful LaHave River Yacht Club. Invited to Canadian Thanksgiving family dinners! There was no end to the kindness of Richard and Janine Knickle. That we could be there now to share our joy of knowing Richard. Dear Janine, Jason and Janelle...
Heartbreaking...I can't stop thinking about all of you as you go through the most difficult time of your lives. Only recently had I learned of Richard's health and I was shocked and so saddened. I wish I could have seen him one more time. Richard and I first met in Grade Primary. I've never seen him without his cheeky grin. Always kind to everyone and all of us have these memories of Richard which helps us smile. All through school, when some kids can get kind of nasty, never Richard. He was loved by us all.
To his loving family, know that there are a multitude of people with you on their minds and in their hearts. If you could sense those feelings, it may help a little bit. Godspeed to you all...
Love, Karen
