It was always a real treat to get into a bluegrass jam with Allie. When he would break into a fiddle tune like "Washington County", it didn't get any better than for any of us. He had a great smile and it was always fun to talk music with him. I found him to be a great musician and an even better person. Safe journey my friend and I'm sure you are standing next to Kenny Baker, showing him how a guy from the South Shore can play some awesome fiddle. My deepest condolences to Allie's family.

To all the MacKay Family.
We are so sorry to hear of Allie's passing. He was a real gentleman and always took time to talk and answer any questions. As a fiddle player he was one of the best not just old time fiddle but also at backing a song. He knew exactly what to put in and what to leave out. He will certainly be missed.

I first met Allie when he operated a dozer for Lester Veinot in 1968 and have known him ever since. From our nightly excursions to the ice cream stand in Chester where we were both operating construction equipment for Nova Construction at the time to enjoying his music while he was a member of Shady Grove and The LaHave River Bluegrass bands, to hearing him play the fiddle at the bluegrass festivals that I attended, Allie was a great person and one that I was honored to consider a friend. RIP my friend, you have joined the greatest band of all. You will be greatly missed

My late wife and I had the good fortune of meeting Allie and Linda at a Bluegrass festival many years ago. Allie and I quickly learned that we had a strong mutual interest in bluegrass fiddle music and from then on, we enjoyed having tunes (fiddle and guitar), whenever we were together. We had the pleasure of visiting Allie and Linda at their home when we visited Nova Scotia. Even though we lived a distance apart (Nova Scotia/Ontario), we always maintained close contact by phone.
Allie was a true friend, someone who was sincere and accepted people as they were. While I will miss Allie, I will continue to maintain contact with Linda and will treasure the memories we made with Allie & Linda over the years.
Sincerely
Frank McVicker
