Obituary of Gerald Bertram Corkum
CORKUM, Gerald Bertram – Age 82, Midville Branch, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 25, 2023 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater with family by his side. Born at Church Lake, Lunenburg Co., he was a son of the late Rodney Lawrence and Laura Victoria (Seamone) Corkum.
Gerald’s working career as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator spanned over 60 years and included jobs in Nova Scotia’s resource and transportation sectors, including forestry, lumber, Christmas trees, road construction and auto salvage, to name a few. He was an avid volunteer in the Midville Branch community and recently received his 50-year service medal as a founding member of the Midville and District Volunteer Fire Department. He and his wife Marcia also volunteered for many years with the Canadian Red Cross in Bridgewater.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Marcia Lynn (Joudrey) Corkum; sons, Andrew (Tammy) Corkum, Hammonds Plains; Mike (Trudy) Corkum, Pentz; step-sons, Steven (Sylvia) Crouse, Lower Northfield; Michael (Tanya) Crouse, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan, Adam, Ashtin and Colby; great-grandson, Marcus; many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by daughter, Mary in childhood; sister, Ethel; brothers, Glen, Roland, Percy, Guy in childhood, both Lawrence and Lemert in infancy.
A Celebration of Life reception will be held from 2-4:30 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2023 in the Midville and District Fire Hall, Midville Branch. A private family interment will take place in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Rev. Dr. Aaron Kenny officiating. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital, Canadian Red Cross, Midville and District Volunteer Fire Department or VON – Lunenburg County.
