My condolences to Gerry's family.
I first met Gerry during our Namibia tour, and our paths crossed a couple of times afterwards while I was still posted in "L" Div.
A recalled conversation we had related to a (formerly) East German border guard he'd worked with in Namibia, who'd wanted to come to Canada, visit and then drive across Canada and back - all in a week. We'd both chuckled over the perception many Europeans have about the size of our country.
Another good man has gone. May he rest in peace.

I am in total shock and so devasted to hear of Gerry's passing. I would have attended his service but I just heard of his passing. Gerry's kindness and compassion will never be forgotten. I will always remember his big laughter, he lit up a room. I will never forget the compassion and grace he had when he had to deliver devasting news to us He was there for my mom and I through the worst time. He held me together with his big bear hugs , and thoughtful caring advice.
Throug out the years when we seen each other he always had a huge hug , smile and we would have a nice chat to catch up. I will miss your smile, gentle ways, and advice .Rest in peace beautiful soul . I know one of your best friends was waiting to greet you

My most Sincere condolences to Jill, John Gavin and Kevin and their Families. Gerry was an extremely good man in so many ways that I could fill a page and start over again. So many life experiences with Gerry that I was able to be proudly a part of. He did so many kind and generous things for many, many people out of the pure goodness of his heart and expected nothing in return. Gerry and I were fortunate enough to be part of a United Nations mission to Namibia, Africa in 1989/90 which included spending Christmas there. His humorous stories and continual big laugh was just what the Doctor ordered for many of the police personnel working there from many countries who needed a little laugh or morale booster from time to time being so far away from home, and Gerry never failed to deliver the right medicine in that regard. Gerry will have the Angels in laughter and good spirits before he even walks through the Pearly Gates. You were an Incredible Dear Friend Gerry and I am Truly gonna miss you and all of the experiences and antics that we shared and were a part of over the years. RIP Gerry and You were the Best.

If you didn't like Gerry Dunphy, you had better take a look at yourself . Gerry lived by the the motto (Live and let Live ) and was true to the old saying ( You don't walk in their shoes ) . He was the most unjudgmental person i ever met . I never heard Gerry say a mean word about anyone. He was respected and liked by all that knew him . When life kicked Gerry , he accepted it with dignity and poise. There was no drama , no complaining and feeling sorry for himself. Gerry didn't realize it but he was an inspiration to the rest of his friends .
He brings a smile to my face when i think of his booming laugh. If you were down just being in Gerry's presence made you feel better . In the end if it can be said about you that you were a fine man - a good person , that is as good as it gets . Gerry you were just that ! Rest in peace Gerry and know we always tell Dunphy stories and you will always be remembered .
Condolences to Gerry's family and know he made a difference in a lot of lives. bob chase

Shannon and I had the great fortune to have Gerry enter our life in September 1982 when we transferred to Shelburne from Newfoundland. Gerry transferred from New Brunswick. He was a true pleasure to work and socialize with , never a dull moment. His personality was bigger than life itself. He had the ability to find humour in any situation and you often ended up laughing because Gerry was laughing. Gerry's laugh is well known by all who crossed his path. We have many great memories that will be with us forever. I will mention one at this time.
Gerry and I happen to be on days off at the same time and in N. B. Gerry wanted to meet up in Saint John for dinner so we could meet his girlfriend. Thus Shannon and I along with my brother, his wife, my sister and her husband made up the dinner party. Gerry spoke highly of the restaurant and kept encouraging all to order frog legs and after a good laugh Gerry placed his order. I ordered salmon, as did my brother and brother-in-law. Gerry laughed as none else could and he said " What are you the salmon brothers". We all couldn't stop laughing for the longest time. We never did live that down. Shannon and I have told that story many times over the years.
In closing our sincere condolences to John Gavin, Kevin, Jill and all your families. My you find comfort in your fondest memories of Gerry at this difficult time. Rest in Peace my friend and keep the angles laughing.

I have a story to share … Many moons ago, Jerry Donnie Landry and Leon Oickle all landed at our cottage. Supper time came, so me, being me, made them all supper ( deep fried haddock and fries) We all know that Jerry was always looking for the next business opportunity. I was working at DFO (that’s how I met the RCMP officers) as we did a lot of Joint Enforcement. After eating my meal, Jerry decided I was a great cook and he should buy The Turkeyburger Restaurant and he wanted me to run it! Somehow my cushy Federal Government Administrative Assistant job looked so much better than slaving over a hot grill! You can’t blame a man for trying!

I met Gerry in the early nineties, and when he took over the Wileville Irving, I was a daily coffee customer. He was always the same, a big smile and a chat. Over the years, we seen him quite often. When we had breakfast at Gerry's Diner, he would often pop in and sit with us and show us pictures of his grandchildren. He was a very proud father and grandfather. I also sat on the Food Bank Board with him. He was a great friend with a big heart and will be missed. Rest easy Gerry. May many cherished memories bring you comfort in the days and months to come.
Sincerely,
Heather Wagner-Brine and Colin Brine

Gerry was a great guy. You always always knew when Gerry was in the room or at the party...that laugh could only be his and was infectious to anyone who heard it. He was the life of any party or gathering and was loved by all. I can't recall Gerry ever losing his temper or spoke ill of anyone. He always spoke highly of his children, being the proud parent he was. Gerry fought many battles, but his fight with cancer was certainly one fight Lee and I will always remember. He never skipped a beat, bouncing back against the odds. He will certainly be missed by everyone who knew him.

To the family of Gerry,
We were so saddened to learn of Gerry’s passing and offer our deepest condolences. Gerry was my troop mate and his laugh would fill our dorm and many times we would get reprimanded because of his laugh on parade square. Gerry was to be our best man when we were married in 1974. He was stationed in Mary’s Harbour, Labrador and managed to make it to Goose Bay but due to an airline strike at the time, he could get no further. We got a fill in at the last minute but no one could take his place. Many, many fond memories. He was a great man and will be missed. RIP buddy.
