Obituary of Ethel Marie Whynot

 

WHYNOT, Ethel Marie - Age 93, of Branch LaHave, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Conquerall Bank, she was a daughter of the late Forrest and Beatrice (Cross) Meisner.

Ethel was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Branch LaHave; the New Horizons Senior Citizens Club, New Germany, Bridgewater Garden Club and for many years, was a 4H Leader. Ethel was an avid hockey fan, especially of the Pittsburg Penguins. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed the many gardens around her property and sharing them with friends. In Ethel’s earlier years, she was a school teacher in the one-room school houses. Ethel was a wonderful woman who will be missed by so many people. She had some wonderful accomplishments in her life over the years - teacher, wife and mother, but her proudest accomplishment was the day she became a grandmother, her eyes lit up brightly the day he was born and stayed that bright until she passed. She was so very proud of Josh and his accomplishments and the fine young man he has become.

Surviving is her son, Dwight (Traci) Whynot, and grandson, Joshua, all of Branch LaHave; sister, Myrtle Grant, Blockhouse; many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lester Leon Whynot; sisters, Evelyn Rawding, Thelma Dagley, Dorothy Jollimore and Margaret (Wight) Durling; brothers, Norman, Eldred and Clyde; several nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Funeral service 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 23 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 35 York Street, Bridgewater with Rev. Svante Olson officiating. A private burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Branch LaHave. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, St. James Lutheran Church or a charity of choice.

We, the family would like to thank Dr. Livingstone, Dr. DuToit, and Dr. Hayden for the great care they gave to Mom in the later years of her life; the responders of EHS and staff of South Shore Regional Hospital for the great care given when Mom was in your hands.
