My condolences to Barbie’s family, to whom I am a stranger. Personally, I have so much to thank Barbie for bringing into my life. It began with her wool dyeing course at rug hooking school; I still have my notebook and samples, but no longer the rainbow earrings that were made from scraps of dyed wool. We both belonged to BANSA (the Botanical Artists Association of Nova Scotia) and I recall her display of precise botanical paintings, labelled in beautiful calligraphy, when that group had a show at the Chase Gallery. At the same time, she shared her smile, her humor, her camaraderie, and occasionally her cottage home or local community hall with a small group eclectic Valley artists. We certainly missed her when she became too ill to travel the distance to join us. I am grateful for all that she shared of herself and contributed to my life.

Sending thoughts and prayers to the family. Have great memories of time spent together as families before she moved from Coldbrook and a few visits to her haven on the lake. Hugs to all. Love Carolina and Ivan.

I was so sorry to hear about Barb’s passing. Many of my happiest teenage memories are of spending time at the Dykens’ house. Their house was always full of all of Brad’s friends and Barb and Bob were always so welcoming, gracious, and patient. Barb treated all of us as if we were her own and she immediately put you at ease with her great sense of humour and warmth. Barb exuded joy and was one the kindest people I have known and her smile and laugh brightened every room she was in. She will definitely be missed. My deepest condolences to Bob, Brad and his family, Bonnie and her family, and the extended family.

I can't imagine Barbie without a laugh on her lips and a twinkle in her eye. I spent many hours painting with her, and learning from her. She was so creative, excelling at so many things. She loved her little house on the lake, and the wildlife she saw every day. Most of all, she loved and was very proud of her family. She will be missed.

Barb was one of the most caring people. She was a great listener who built people up around her - taking genuine interest in those lucky enough to know her. She wore many hats...figuratively and literally. She was like a second mom to a lot of us who got to know her as "Scouter Barb"...introducing many of us to extended paddling/canoeing trips. A beautiful person who's smile made you feel like the sun was shining on you.
